S. 918 — Protect Our Probationary Employees Act

This section establishes definitions and a process allowing covered probationary employees—those involuntarily separated from an executive agency (i.e., executive department, government corporation, or independent establishment) during a probationary or trial period between January 20, 2025, and January 20, 2029—to resume their probationary period upon covered reappointment to their former employing agency in the same or similar position. The remaining probationary period equals the full applicable duration minus time previously served (not to exceed the full duration). The provision sunsets on January 20, 2029.
