This section expands the organizations and curricula recognized for satisfying the required training on pain management and safe pharmacological management of opioid use disorder (8 hours for initial DEA registration or renewal to prescribe controlled substances) by (1) adding the American Academy of Family Physicians, American Podiatric Medical Association, Academy of General Dentistry, American Optometric Association, and Council on Podiatric Medical Education to the list of approved providers in subsection (m)(1)(A)(i)(IV); (2) adding the American Academy of Family Physicians to another list in that provision; (3) including podiatric medicine curricula alongside osteopathic medicine, dental surgery, and dental medicine curricula; and (4) adding the American Pharmacists Association, Accreditation Council on Pharmacy Education, American Psychiatric Nurses Association, and American Academy of Nursing to the list of approved providers in subsection (m)(1)(B)(i). The amendments apply retroactively, effective as if enacted on December 29, 2022.
