S. 983 — Hearing Device Coverage Clarification Act

This section directs the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Administrator, not later than 60 days after the date of enactment, to clarify that implanted active middle ear hearing devices are prosthetics not subject to Medicare's hearing aid coverage exclusion under section 1862(a)(7) of the Social Security Act (42 U.S.C. 1395y(a)(7)). (As background, Medicare Part B covers prosthetic devices but excludes hearing aids and related services; "prosthetic" has the meaning given in 42 CFR 414.202.)
