S.Res. 172 — A resolution supporting the designation of the week of April 11 through April 17, 2025, as the eighth annual "Black Maternal Health Week", founded by Black Mamas Matter Alliance, Inc., to bring national attention to the maternal and reproductive health crisis in the United States and the importance of reducing maternal mortality and morbidity among Black women and birthing people.

This section states that the Senate recognizes (1) the disproportionate maternal mortality and morbidity rates among Black women; (2) the unacceptability of these rates; (3) the need to mitigate systemic racism by ensuring the Black community has safe housing, transportation equity, nutritious food, clean environments, decriminalization in criminal and family systems, freedom from violence, living wages, economic opportunity, perinatal workforce pipelines, and comprehensive health care including reproductive care; (4) the need to support human rights, reproductive justice, and birth justice policies to improve maternal outcomes; (5) the importance of Black women's participation in policy decisions; (6) the need to pass the Black Maternal Health Momnibus Act (H.R. 959, 117th Congress) and similar legislation; and (7) Black Maternal Health Week as an opportunity to advance related conversations, investments, and policies.
