This section expresses the sense of the Senate that (1) it supports the goals and ideals of National Public Health Week; (2) it recognizes the efforts of public health professionals, the federal government, states, tribes, municipalities, local communities, and individuals in preventing disease and injury; (3) public health plays a role in preventing and responding to infectious disease outbreaks such as the COVID-19 pandemic and ongoing measles outbreak, mitigating their impacts, addressing social determinants of health and health disparities in minority populations, and improving overall health; (4) increased efforts and resources are needed to improve U.S. health and make the United States the healthiest nation in one generation by enhancing community health opportunities and strengthening the public health system and workforce; and (5) the people of the United States should learn about the public health system's role.
