This section states the sense of the Senate honoring veterans of the Pacific and European theaters of World War II on the 80th anniversary of the war's conclusion; expressing appreciation for their service; calling for commemoration of the September 2, 1945, signing of the Instrument of Surrender aboard the USS Missouri; mourning more than 200,000 deaths, including more than 12,000 U.S. servicemembers and up to 150,000 Japanese civilians, in the Battle of Okinawa from April 1 to June 22, 1945; reaffirming the Treaty of Peace with Japan signed September 8, 1951; and recognizing post-World War II alliances and defense sites in the Indo-Pacific region.
