S.Res. 408 — A resolution recognizing September 20, 2025, as "National LGBTQ+ Servicemembers and Veterans Day".

This section recognizes September 20, 2025, as National LGBTQ+ Servicemembers and Veterans Day; celebrates the contributions of LGBTQ+ servicemembers and veterans to the Armed Forces; regrets harms from past policies including Don't Ask, Don't Tell, transgender servicemember bans, and other discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity; and recognizes adverse effects of other-than-honorable or dishonorable discharges issued on such bases (i.e., premature career termination, trauma from investigations, denial of service honors and veterans' benefits, and ongoing dignitary harm). The section further urges the Departments of Veterans Affairs (VA) and Defense (1) to implement policy changes restoring justice for past discrimination and to conduct outreach ensuring benefits access for those discharged based on sexual orientation or gender identity; (2) to provide transgender servicemembers, veterans, and families full access to health care including gender-affirming care; and (3) for VA to remove the exclusion of gender-affirming surgery from the VA medical benefits package.
