This section expresses the sense of the Senate (1) calling on the President to commit to free speech consistent with the Constitution; (2) reaffirming commitment to the First Amendment and freedoms of speech and press; (3) declaring that media independence must be protected and government powers not used to punish media for editorial content; (4) condemning threats to revoke media licenses based on content or viewpoints; (5) calling on the FCC Chairman and relevant agency heads to uphold free speech and not use licensing or regulations repressively; and (6) rebuking political violence against those exercising free speech rights.
