This section recognizes the 80th anniversary of the U.S. amphibious landing on Iwo Jima from February 19 to March 26, 1945; commemorates the flag raisings on Mount Suribachi on February 23, 1945; honors U.S. Marines, Sailors, Soldiers, Army Air Crew, Coast Guardsmen, and Japanese defenders; remembers fallen service members; recognizes the Allied victory led by the U.S. Marine Corps; quotes Admiral Chester Nimitz on the uncommon valor of U.S. participants; reaffirms the U.S.-Japan alliance; encourages programs, ceremonies, and activities to honor Iwo Jima veterans; honors current U.S. service members; and salutes the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Marine Corps and Navy.
