This section expresses the sense of Congress that (1) the United States appreciates alliances with countries such as the United Kingdom and Australia and honors the sacrifices of their armed forces in U.S.-led missions in Afghanistan, Iraq, and elsewhere; (2) allied forces' contributions were integral to those missions under mutual defense agreements; (3) retrospective, politically motivated war crimes accusations against allied special operations forces undermine mutual trust, interoperability, and morale; (4) the executive branch, including the Department of Defense and Department of State, should work with allies such as Australia and the United Kingdom to ensure investigations are conducted without politicization; and (5) honoring allied sacrifices, preserving alliances, and discouraging politicization of allegations serves the U.S. national interest while respecting the rule of law.
